Tips I've learned at my internship at WJXT channel 4

Writing a tease:
  • Make a promise in every tease
    • You want to give the viewer something to look for
    • If you can't answer the question then don't present it
    • If there is not an answer to a question make a promise but no promise response
  • Identify the view benefit
    • If there is not a benefit then why watch
    • Think about the audience
    • Present useful information
  • Drill down to specifics
    • What are the best pictures
    • What are the best sound clips
    • What are the surprises
  • Write the promise first
    • Create the tease from the bottom up
    • Most interesting part first
    • Similar to the inverted pyramid style
  • Avoid questions
    • Turn them into promises
  • Don't overuse, who, what, when, where, and how?
    • Instead use branding lines
  • Reference your video
    • Be specific in your video
  • Treat the lead in like a promo
    • Make sure first sentence commands attention
    • Promise the best part of the story is still to come
  • Interact in stand up teases, stand-ups, and live shots
    • Shoot tight, not wide
    • Brainstorm live locations
